The Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) has confirmed the death of former Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.
A few weeks ago, the news of the death of the leader of Boko Haram went viral on social media. It was reported that Abubakar Shekau was killed after ISWAP forces invaded his Sambisa fortress.
According to Eons Intelligence, Shekau was said to have blown himself to avoid being captured alive. Taking to its Twitter page, Eons Intelligence announced the death and wrote:
#ShekauFinallyDead: Intelligence sources have confirmed that #BH #JAS Leader, Abubakar Shekau is finally dead. This was following d #ISWAP attack on Sambisa fortress of #shekau led by ISWAP commander, Baana DUGURI. Shekau was said to have blown himself to avoid being captured alive.
ISWAP confirmed that Abubakar Shekau shot himself dead after he refused to surrender following the invasion in his hideout onMay, 19th, 2021. According to ISWAP, the fighters expressed joy over the death of Shekau.
Speaking in Hausa, al-Barnawi said: “This was someone who committed unimaginable terrorism. How many has he wasted? How many has he killed? How many has he terrorized? But Allah left him alone and prolonged his life. When it was time, Allah set out brave soldiers after receiving orders from Amirul Muminin [leader of the believers].”
