In many African countries like Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Gambia and Gabon, bride price is valued and a man cannot fully say he has the rights to his intended before paying the price which is usually in form of cows, sheep, bulls, ax heads among others.
To some communities, especially the Kenyan coastal ones, the price can be in monetary form. This is usually the huddle that men face whenever they want to get married. However, in some communities around the world, the story is different.
In places like Libya and other middle east Islamic counties like Egypt, Saudi and Lebanon, it is the bride that pays the groom’s family before getting married to him.
Here, dowry is paid by the girl’s father for the man. The same happens to Indians and their neighbours like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
I am pretty sure that if that could be the case in Kenya, then men could be the happiest here. Let me know your thoughts on bride price in the comment section below.
