David Dobrik is NOT fired my YouTube. On March 26, the platform confirmed they would be demonetizing his channel. Here’s what it really means.
On March 23, David released a second apology video and addressed Durte Dom’s allegations. These allegations were released in an Insider article. Following this, David also revealed that he would be taking a break from social media. David has not revealed when he will make a return.
David Dobrik demonetized by YouTube
On March 26, YouTube confirmed they had temporarily demonetized David’s channel. The statement read: “We have strict policies that prohibit sexual harassment on YouTube and take allegations of sexual assault very seriously. We have temporarily suspended monetization on David Dobrik and Durte Dom channels for violating our Creator Responsibility policy.”
However, this news does not mean that he has been fired. It simply means that YouTube will not place any ads during David’s video. Advertisements are one of the main sources of revenue for YouTubers.
It is important to note that the statement says he has been “temporarily” demonetized. It is possible YouTube and David could reach an understanding after he decides to start making content again.
David, at the moment, has three YouTube channels. His David Dobrik channel has 18.5 million subscribers. David Dobrik Too has over 8.6 million subscribers, and his podcast ‘Views’ has over 1.7 million subscribers.
What did David Dobrik say in his apology video?
On March 23, David released another video addressing Dom’s drama. He said: “I have put myself in a lot of situations where I have needed to apologize for my past actions, and I have never done this correctly and never done this respectfully. My last video is a testament to that. I don’t want to defend that video, I don’t want to delete that video.”
Speaking about Dom’s allegations, David said: “I fully believe the woman who came out against Dom that she was sexually assaulted and raped by him. As it was reported, the next day, I got consent to post the video. Even though I got the consent to post the video, I should have never posted it. What I understand now, and what I didn’t understand before is that she sent that text because she felt like she said to, not because she wanted to and that’s f**ked up, and I am sorry”
David ended the video by stating he would be taking a break from social media to ensure that his upcoming videos have a proper structure in place.
