Neuralink, a brain-interface technology company founded by Elon Musk, has said it is ready to implant microchips into the human brain.

According to Elon Musk, the chip will assist patients with paralysis and other cognitive issues regain some of their abilities.

They are implanted in people’s brains to record and stimulate their brain activity, with the goal of assisting patients who have suffered significant spinal cord injuries and neurological illnesses.

“I don’t want to raise hopes unduly,” but I’m becoming more and more sure that the technology is nearly ready for people,” he remarked at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council Summit (pending Food and Drug Administration approval).

He elaborated.

“Neuralink’s working well in monkeys, and we’re actually doing a lot of testing, and confirming that it’s very safe and reliable, and that the Neuralink device can be removed safely,”

“I think we have a chance with Neuralink to restore full-body functionality to someone who has a spinal cord injury.”

Defining the significance of the term The chip, according to Musk, might hypothetically allow a paralyzed person to use a smartphone with their thoughts.

He said:

“Later versions will be able to shunt signals from Neuralinks in brain to Neuralinks in body motor/sensory neuron clusters, thus enabling, for example, paraplegics to walk again”

In July last year, Musk also announced that he was working on a microchip that would allow wearers to stream music directly into their brains – it’s unclear if this is the same device.
