Artist T-Pain just discovered his message requests on Instagram and took to TikTok to show his fans all the DMs he had been missing for the past two years.
He apologised to all the celebrities in his DMs who he had ignored unintentionally, and explained that he didn’t realise that message requests were a thing.
There were some pretty big names in T-Pain’s message requests, which he pointed out, and shook his head with embarrassment.
If you’re like T-Pain and are completely in the dark when it comes to Instagram message requests, read on below because we’ve got you covered!
What is the Instagram requests folder?
The request folder is a feature on Instagram to help you manage your DMs and privacy on the social media platform.
Messages from people you follow show up in the normal messages section, but messages from people you don’t follow will appear under the “requests” tab.
When you get a message request from someone, you will see a small blue tab in the top right of your DMs titled “request.” The tab will also display the number of messages waiting for you.
When you open a message request, you will be able to open and read the message. You then have the option to block the message, delete the message, or accept the message.
Once you accept the message, the other user will be able to see that you have viewed it, and you will be able to reply. After that, it will move over to the main messages section in your DMs.
T-Pain discovers Instagram request folder
T-Pain shared a hilarious video with his TikTok fans in April as he stumbled across his Instagram request folder, and found it full of messages from other celebrities. In the video, the closed captioning read:
“I was today years old when I found out about the request folder on Instagram that’s full of celebs trying to miss me.”
“I’ve been accidentally straight up ignoring all these people for like two years. I though DMs are supposed to just show up in the normal folder and you don’t have to go digging for all these.”
There were some pretty big names in his DMs, including Fergie, Viola Davis, Diplo and more, so it’s no surprise he was annoyed about missing their messages.
T- Pain captioned the TikTok:
“I swear!! I’m just now seeing all these messages and mentions TODAY!!!! How do I super apologize? Press conference? Town hall meeting? I’m dumb.”
