In December 2020, social media consultant Matt Navarra announced on Twitter that TikTok would be trialling longer, 3 minute videos.
Currently, the length of TikTok videos is 60 seconds, which keeps content on the app short and sweet.
However, more and more users have been granted early access to create longer videos, which can reach up to three minutes, or 180 seconds, in length.
TikTok announces new 3 minute videos
Back on December 2nd 2020, social media consultant Matt Navarra announced that TikTok will be trialling a longer video length.
In his tweet, he explained that the app would be introducing 3 minute long videos, which is three times the normal length of videos on the app. The tweet read:
“TikTok is rolling out ability to upload longer videos of up to 3 minutes long.”
Twitter reacted to the news, with some people feeling positive about the possible change, while others were less than keen.
One user wrote: “I thought this 3 minute feature on TikTok would be nice but all its done is allow people to ramble on for longer without getting to the point.”
Another said: “TikTok has 3 minute long videos now and I really don’t like that idea. Like if u wanted to remake YouTube just say it.”
However, other users were looking forward to the update, with one writing: “TikTok allowing 3 minute videos just in time for Eurovision is the best thing to happen so far this year and it better not be wasted.”
How to make 3 minute TikToks
Those with the ability to make and upload longer, three minute videos will have received a notification from TikTok. The message reportedly reads:
“You have early access to uploading videos up to 3 minutes long on the TikTok app and desktop! To try it out, make sure your app is up-to-date and try uploading a video from your device to the app or tiktok.com.”
Only people who have been chosen to receive early access to the 3 minute long videos will be able to produce and upload them onto their account.
