Dolly Parton has released a statement asking the Tennessee General Assembly to halt its plans to erect a statue of her. Is Parton a Republican or Democrat?
Dolly Parton is the star of US country music that both Republicans and Democrats support and wanted to build her a statue at Tennessee Capitol.
The 75-year-old country singer from Tennessee has rejected the offer and kindly asked for the statue plans to be cancelled.
Dolly Parton rejects proposed statue at Tennessee Capitol.
On February 18th, the “Jolene” singer released a statement posted on Twitter and Instagram thanking Tennessee lawmakers for their intentions but asking them to not consider a bill that would allow for a statue of her on the grounds of the Capitol.
In the statement, Dolly Parton wrote: “I am honoured and humbled by their intention. Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time. I’ll continue to try to do good work to make this great state proud.”
Dolly Parton’s fans have supported the decision of the singer and are very proud that she isn’t putting herself first during these difficult times.
However, this statement has raised questions about Parton’s political stance, since this isn’t the first time the 9 to 5 singer declines an accolade offer.
Is Dolly Parton a Republican?
Parton has never publicly stated her political beliefs and has always avoided conversations that involve politics, even when it comes to civilian honours.
Dolly Parton was offered the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice by Donald Trump and given that Trump tended to honour his supporters, Parton was thought to be a Republican as well.
According to the Business Insider, Parton has rejected the Presidential Medal of Freedom both times and after rejecting a statue, Dolly Parton is most likely to not be a Republican.
