Some social media users are wondering if TikTok would shut down in 2022 as the year draws to a close. In May 2021, the Internet was inundated with the same uncertainty.
Over the past few years, TikTok has become one of the most popular social networking apps. Because of content regulation concerns, the app has been blocked in some countries.
But, what’s the status of the app ahead of the new year?
Is TikTok shutting down in 2022?
Even though some social media users are predicting that TikTok may shut down soon, there hasn’t been any official announcement by the platform suggesting the same.
It seems like nothing but random speculation swirling on social media, just like in May this year, when several wondered if the app was really shutting down after watching a viral TikTok.
By the end of the said video, TikTok user “theblondejon” said, “Share this to your friends to scare them. Just kidding, TikTok isn’t getting shut down!”
Which countries have banned the app?
TikTok was permanently banned in India in June 2020.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has so far tried to ban TikTok four times and reversed it too. The first ban was imposed in October 2020 and the fourth ban came in July 2021, under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, according to The Sun.
The other countries that tried to ban the video-sharing app include Indonesia and Bangladesh.
In September 2020, users in the US started panicking after former President Donald Trump spoke about banning the app.
TikTokers react hilariously to speculations about the ban
TikTok users have come up with some hilarious reactions to the rumors about the platform shutting down in 2022.
Here’s how one user Zay joked about it:
Another TikToker, Throwback King, shared, “POV: It’s the day Tiktok Shuts down pt. 2”
