No, as far as we know, TikTok is not shutting down on May 15th 2021.
The rumours began when one TikTok user, “theblondejon” shared a video asking his friends how they felt about “TikTok getting shut down in May.”
The video, which is captioned “TikTok shutting down on May 15th interview,” has gathered over 700 thousand views, which means a lot of worried people who saw it are wondering about the future of the app.
However, at the end of the video, “theblondejon” said:
“Share this to your friends to scare them. Just kidding, TikTok isn’t getting shut down!”
Which countries have banned TikTok?
On June 29th 2020, TikTok was banned in India. The day after the ban was announced, TikTok was no longer available on app stores in the country.
For those who had already downloaded the app, an error message was displayed which said it was “complying with the Government of India’s directive.”
In a blog post following the ban, TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer said:

In October 2020, TikTok was also banned in Pakistan. According to CNET The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that it gave TikTok the opportunity to comply, but it did not:
