A female hopeful of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Miriam Onuoha, is announced winner of the rerun election conducted in Imo state for a seat at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Onuoha led the APC to victory ahead of her rival, Obinna Onwubualiri, to fill a vacant seat at the House of Representatives.
With the victory, Onuoha will now represent Okigwe North at the green chamber.
Her victory was confirmed by Frank Collins, standing for INEC. Collins said Onuoha scored 23, 690 votes against Onwubualiri’s 10, 010.
The INEC official further explained that the number of registered voters was 200, 684, number of accredited voters – 38, 244, total no of rejected votes – 815, total number of votes cast was 35, 198, while percentage turnout was 19.06 per cent.
Collins explained that 28 political parties sought for the seat while the difference between the winner and the second position was 13, 680.
The rerun was conducted following an order by the appeal court.
