A Nigerian-German columnist, Ruona J Meyer, has been assigned for 2019 International Emmy Award for News and Current Affairs. Meyer, who works with BBC World Service, said it is the first for the worldwide media association and Nigeria.
She was nominated for her viral documentary titled Sweet Sweet Codeine, a detailed piece that fleshes out the narrative on the abuse of the cough syrup among Nigerian youths.
The list of the nomination was released on Tuesday, August 6 with nominees from Brazil, Sweden, Nigeria, Qatar, Russian and the UK.
It should be noted that the award for the current affairs and news categories are given alongside others for American news and documentaries. The award ceremony of the Emmy will be held in October 2019.
