The multi-talented Soulja Boy (born DeAndre Cortez Way) is a well-known American rapper, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. The song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” is his best-known work. Soulja Boy Tell Em is another name for him.
In Atlanta, Soulja started listening to rap music when he was just six years old. After moving to Batesville with his father when he was 14, Soulja began to pursue his musical interests in his father’s recording studio. His songs were uploaded to SoundClick in November 2005. Soulja set up channels on YouTube and Myspace as a result of the site’s positive feedback.
To accompany the release of Unsigned & Still Major: Da Album Before da Album, Soulja released the low-budget video for “Crank That” in March 2007.
End of May 2007 saw the first airplay of “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and Soulja meeting with Mr. Collipark to sign an Interscope Records contract. Following its debut on Entourage’s soundtrack on August 12th, 2007, the song quickly rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts in the United States.
Topping the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts in the United States, Souljaboytellem.com, his major label debut, was released on October 2, 2007. The demo version of FL Studio is said to have been used to record the album.

Soulja Boy Acting career.
After Soulja announced on January 7th, 2009 that Soulja Boy: The Animated Series would be his own animated series, only one episode was ever released.
He told MTV News in August 2010 that he had discussed the idea of making a film about himself with Nick Cannon and that he intended to pursue it. Peter Spirer, a documentary filmmaker, approached Soulja about making a film about the artist.
A direct-to-video release of Spirer’s Soulja Boy: The Movie was timed to coincide with the rapper’s October 2011 arrest on a drug charge.
Soulja Boy announced on April 22, 2011, that he would be making his acting debut as Bishop in the Juice remake and that it would air on BET. Actor Down: Officer Down was announced in 2013 and confirmed by him at that time.

Soulja and Chris Brown began to exchange Instagram videos towards each other in a matter of minutes, for example: Chris Brown accusing Way of “snitching” or Way poking fun of Brown’s daughter and his infamous incident with singer Rihanna in 2009.
The next day, Way apologized to Brown and fans about the event and wished to collaborate with Brown.

Soulja Boy Robbed
On December 30, 2008, Soulja Boy was robbed and battered in his home. Initial reports on the robbery indicated that the robbers were six masked men with AK-47s and pistols but on December 31, 2008, videos surfaced on the Internet of two masked men claiming sole credit for the crime.
Soulja described the incident to MTV News a month later: He had come home very late at night after attending an album release party and was recording songs with friends when the robbers came in pointing their guns.
On January 26, 2009, during another interview, he clarified that it was three robbers and not six, stating: “I got back to my house at around 3 in the morning and I was in the studio recording. So two of my homeboys was in the living room and me and Arab we was in the studio recording. And somebody kicked in the door. One dude ran in put the AK to my homeboy head, put him on the floor […] The other two ran in my homeboy jumped in the other room, so the other two dudes ran back so I peeped in the door and they running through my house with Ks and pistols so I ducked back. I really can’t dwell on what happened after that, but it was a messed up situation and I’m glad everyone made it out alive.”
The police report made no mention of any gunfire having taken place.

Soulja Boy Interview
Interviewer: It’s never as easy as it appears, but your sudden rise to fame suggests sometimes it is. Is that the case here?
Soulja Boy: Ah, it was really not that easy. I been doin’ what I do for a long time, I been on the internet—[that] was a big part of my success throughout the years. I been on that real hard, and finally, Mr. Collipark see me and hit me up and we did the deal, and the rest is history.
READ ALSO: Lil Bibby Bio: net worth, age, height, record label, Juice Wrld, death or alive?
Interviewer: Prior to becoming a national phenomenon with “Crank That Soulja Boy,” did you believe that this song and dance would catapult you to fame?
Soulja Boy: No, I didn’t know because before the deal I was pushin’ another single—I got many songs, but like when I landed a deal we just had to go with this one, but I didn’t know this one was just gonna be the one [or] that was just gonna be a real breakthrough for me.
Interviewer: Is this dance entirely Soulja Boy’s creative invention?
Soulja Boy: Umm, I would say half of it is, and half of it I give a shout out to my dancer Cash Camp who came up with the first part of the dance, and the end part, that’s all me, all Soulja Boy.
Interviewer: The single’s popularity is due, in part, to the accompaniment of the dance. Will all of your material be somewhat similar?
Soulja Boy: All of my songs gonna be like dances or have a dance to it, but all my songs you can relate to or something can spread like a word or a fan or a dance, or something that you can do with the song.
Interviewer: Beyoncé has included your song and dance in her concert routine. What are the chances we’ll see an Oprah or a George Bush doin’ a “Crank That” in the near future?
Soulja Boy: The chances are really high because Samuel L. Jackson was doin’ it live on 106 and Park. Keyshia Cole doin’ it live at her concert in New York, her band played it, Beyoncé did it, Omarion, Bow Wow, so it’s really spreading. The chances of that are really likely right now.
Interviewer: Your website has approximately 6,000 members and most of them have created profiles with links to YouTube where they’ve uploaded their own videos of themselves doing the “Crank That” dance. Most of them are awful. Have you considered doing dance instruction as a side hustle?
Soulja Boy: I’m doin’ my rapping thing right now, and also I did the instructional DVD, so that’s gonna bring in money. That DVD is gonna be on sale, so that’s gonna be like a big role part of the dance, to show people who not doin’ it correctly how to do it properly.
Interviewer: I’m a white guy Chicago. Am I a lost cause or do you think that even I could learn how to do this dance?
Soulja Boy: I mean, even you can learn how to do the dance if you just watch this instructional DVD and pay attention to it step by step. Even if you have no rhythm, there’s still a chance for you.
Interviewer: I have rhythm.
Soulja Boy: If you got rhythm then there’s a big chance for you!
Interviewer: Your style is unique and trendy—just the other day I saw someone at the mall who had their name, I presume, written on their sunglasses. How did you go about developing a style?
Soulja Boy: I always liked to do something different, like I had my name on my clothes and my shoes. I thought about it one day, “I’ve got my name on my hat and everything—I’m gonna put it on my shades.” People said, “Can you see outta those?” Yes, I can. It’s official and is very new, and there’s gonna be a lot of people doin’ it.
Interviewer: Your debut album is entitled, Souljaboytellem.com. What message do you hope to deliver with this album?
Soulja Boy: I’m trying to tell the people to look out for me—I’m the next generation of hip-hop, it’s a movement what I’m startin’ right now. The album is gonna be crazy—it covers every base of good music: hip-hop, R&B, it’s got humor on there. It’s a very powerful album. And what I’m telling you—you have to listen. When you pay attention to what I’m saying and my lyrics, the things that I do, the trends that I set, the following that I have… it’s like, “Damn,” it gonna be crazy.
Interviewer: When someone says, “Soulja Boy’s music is garbage, he’s ruining hip-hop,” what do you say in your defense?
Soulja Boy: My defense, I say, they’re probably used to hearing a type of music, and it’s different from mine, and they’re brought up, and they’ve listened to this type of music for so long, and when they hear something like a Soulja Boy, they scared, and they like, “What is this? This is so different!” But so many people like it, so they don’t get it. It really confuses them. They automatically on the defense, they attack. They like, “This is not hip-hop, and this is not what I’m used to listening to.” But it’s so different, and so many people are listenin’ to it.
Interviewer: What can you do now, as a teenager, that will help you achieve longevity in the rap game?
Soulja Boy: I can set my foot down—right now, I’m really hot. So right now when I’m hot I’m gonna take advantage of everything that I can do possible that can help me out, so later in my career, I may not have a single that’s as hot as, “Crank That Soulja Boy,” but what I have right now, I’m going to use to set my boundaries. Later on, when I don’t have a single that’s so hot, I still have the relationships that are helpin’ me on my single that I have out in the future.
Interviewer: Time for a prediction. 50 Cent drops his new album on September 11, you drop yours on October 2. Who’s gonna sell more copies?
Soulja Boy: You said who’s gonna sell more, me or 50 Cent?
Interviewer: You or 50 Cent. You’re pretty big right now, everybody’s doin’ that dance…
Soulja Boy: I think I’m gonna sell more, definitely.
Interviewer: Bold, I like it.
Soulja Boy: It’s a new generation of hip-hop—it’s a movement, so join.

Soulja Boy Gets At DJ Akademiks For Letting Tekashi 6ix9ine Go To Jail
Things got microwave heated during Soulja Boy’s grand interview on Everyday Struggle Thursday (January 17).
After the hosting trio took great joy in picking apart the “Crank That” rapper’s viral Breakfast Club interview (just like the rest of the world), Soulja Boy began the show on a tear; firmly defending his name and claims, and even doing his fair share of berating towards DJ Akademiks.
The most sensational confrontation came at the tail end of the 53-minute conversation when Soulja Boy bragged about his goon stock and growled, “Y’all know what’s up with me, nigga. 50 shooters in Atlanta, nigga. Stop playing with me, fuck nigga.”
Before Ak could murmur out a rebuttal, Soulja Boy accused him of being instrumental in Tekashi 6ix9ine’s prison downfall.
“Free 6ix9ine, bro!” he exclaimed. “You played with that man. You were supposed to his homie, bro. You ain’t have that man back, bro. Why that nigga sitting in jail right now? Why you ain’t give him no advice? Why you ain’t look at him, bro?”
Ak tried to make the comparison on how he equally offered Soulja Boy advice for his own legal troubles but his distinguished guest wasn’t trying to hear any of it.
“But Ak, he’s not going to learn — he in the Feds,” Soulja Boy explained. “Racketeering charges. This not no Draco where you can get a lawyer and get probation. This is real time. That man can lose his whole life. [And] you were the closest nigga to him, bro. Y’all was on social media playing and joking and shit — that shit hurt me and I didn’t even know holmes. You didn’t even know me and you DM’ed me, giving me advice telling me to put my guns down. [6ix9ine] is your right-hand man. You supposed to make sure that didn’t happen. You could’ve prevented that!”
While Akademiks didn’t shy away from his involvement in making the incarcerated rap star’s buzz that much bigger, he assured Soulja Boy he did everything in his power to make 6ix9ine listen to reason. He cited 6ix9ine’s own admission that advice never graciously presented itself his life before the fame so it was his way above all.
