Henry Ruggs, an ex-Raiders player, has been identified as the driver who caused the death of Tina Tintor, a 23-year-old woman.
Two felony accusations of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving were brought against Ruggs, 22, on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
NFL player crashed into Tintor’s Toyota RAV4 just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, according to prosecutors.
By the time he was arrested, Rugg’s blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Ruggs drove into the right lane and struck Tintor’s car from behind while traveling at “a high rate of speed,” according to a police report. “Approximate 519 feet post-impact” is how far Ruggs’ Corvette traveled, whereas the Toyota went 571 feet.
According to authorities, the Tintor’s car caught fire, trapping her inside along with a dog, both of whom died as a result.
Rudy Washington, Ruggs’ girlfriend, was also in the car and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the police, she had surgery for a significant arm injury on Tuesday.
Witnesses informed police that bystanders rushed to the aid of the trapped driver following the crash. Ruggs’ automobile was speeding when it collided with a security guard’s vehicle, the guard said. It was said that Rugg’s body was lying on the road with his “feet in the driver’s side floorboard.”
An officer was called and Tina Tintor couldn’t be saved because the security guard had been overtaken by “smoke and heat” from the flames, he said.
Tina was “trapped or pinned in the car,” according to another witness, who tried to aid her but was forced to back away because of the flames.
In a statement issued late Tuesday night, the Raiders announced Ruggs’ dismissal from the organization. His bond was set at $150,000 and electronic monitoring was mandated if released.
