Aliko Dangote’s brother, Sani Dangote, died on Sunday, and prominent Nigerians have rushed to social media to express their grief.
After a brief illness, Dangote is reported to have died in the United States.
Vice President of Dangote Group before his death, he also served on the boards of Nigerian Textile Mills Plc, Nutra Sweet Limited, Gum Arabic Limited, Dangote Textile Mills Limited, Alsan Insurance Broker, Dan-Hydro Company Limited, Dansa Food Processing Co. Ltd. and Dangote Farms Limited.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his sadness at the news, describing the deceased as an intelligent businessman who worked in a variety of fields.
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing away of Sani Dangote, VP of Dangote Group and founder of Dansa Agro-allied Limited. He was an astute businessman engaged in diverse sectors of the economy,” Atiku tweeted.
President Bukola Saraki tweeted: “My family and I am extremely grieved to read about the passing of Alhaji Sani Dangote, the Group Vice-President of Alhaji Aliko Dangote and younger brother to our good friend.”
Nasir el-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State, tweeted, “OMG! My heart is broken. We are all descended from God. We’ll all be coming back to Him in the end! Inshallah, Sani Dangote’s mistakes will be forgiven and his good actions will be rewarded. We ask Allah to provide the strength to bear the loss for Aliko and the Dangote extended family. Amen. Sani was a genuinely lovely and decent person. Sad.”
