Concrete Cowboy, is the Netflix film everyone is talking about and fans of the movie are desperate to know where the cowboy chaos was filmed.
The film was released on April 2nd, 2021 by Netflix and it is a movie based on the novel Ghetto Cowboy by Greg Neri. The release of the film was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic but the film is now on screens!
Where was Concrete Cowboy filmed?
- According to reports by the Philadephia Inquirer, Concrete Cowboy’s filming locations we mainly filmed in Philadelphia city in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.
In order to make the filming locations look authentic, the director shot in the Northern part of the city where real urban cowboys live rather than creating a movie set. Many of the scenes were filmed at the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club in order to showcase the authentic cowboy look.
Filming of the Concrete Cowboy started in August 2019 in North Philadelphia; the reason it was filmed here is because the director Ricky Staub got the idea for the film when he saw a man riding a horse in the streets of Philadelphia. He then discovered the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club which sourced him to Greg Neri’s novel, Ghetto Cowboy.
2021 Netflix filming location revealed!
The most significant filming location was the neighbourhood of Strawberry Mansion, next to East Fairmount Park. The Fletcher Street club stables for the horses are also located nearby across from 26th. Locals from the neighbourhood were also filmed telling histories of Black urban riding culture originating from Philadelphia.
The cast of the film includes some popular movies stars who all flew out to Philly for the filming. Some of whom were, Idris Elba as Harp, Caleb McLaughlin as Cole, Byron Bowers as Rome, Jharrel Jerome as Smush, Clifford “Method Man” Smith as Leroy, Ivannah-Mercedes as Esha, Lorraine Toussaint as Nessie, Devenie Young as Trina and many more.
