Imagine going into surgery and waking up with a new accent. Sounds strange, right?
Well, that’s exactly what happened to Gie Mcyen, and she’s been documenting her bizarre journey on TikTok.
Who is Gie Mcyen?
Last month, Angie McYen, better known by her nickname Gie, was just a normal woman from Australia. Now, she’s an internet sensation.
Gie started a TikTok account on April 30th after waking up from surgery and making a very shocking discovery.
Now, she’s documented her bizarre surgery story and it’s gone viral on TikTok.
Here’s what happened…
Gie woke up after surgery with a different accent
On April 28th, 2021, Gie went into surgery to have her tonsils removed. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change.
When she woke up, she no longer had her usual Australian accent. Instead, she had a bizarre Irish twang, and she’s been documenting her story on TikTok.
In the first video which was posted on April 30th, she said:
“I took a shower and I usually sing when I’m showering and listening to songs and all of a sudden I was talking in an Irish accent and I thought initially that was just something that I was just hearing, this can’t be real, and now I can’t shake it.”
She said that she was on her way to the hospital, and in a later video revealed that the doctors had diagnosed her with something called Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS).
FAS is a very rare speech disorder that usually occurs after a head injury, stroke or any time of damage to the brain.
According to Healthline, only 100 people have been diagnosed with the condition since the first known case was discovered in 1907.
