A resurfaced video from Steven Crowder’s YouTube channel has caused shock on Twitter. Read on to find out what happened and who he is.
‘Cross-dressing at Planet Fitness’ was uploaded by Steven Crowder to his YouTube channel in response to a news story at the time in 2015. The story involved a woman who allegedly had her Planet Fitness membership revoked after complaining about a transgender woman using the changing rooms.
Crowder compares Planet Fitness’ stance on transgender individuals to their stance on serious lifters. The gyms famously have siren systems which discourage power-liftings from using their “casual gym-goer” gyms. The sirens alarm any time weights are slammed down or loudly lifted.
Seemingly, in an attempt to discover whether Planet Fitness values their ‘no judgement of transgender people’ over their ‘no serious lifters’ rule, Crowder dresses in women’s clothing with a wig and fake breasts.
He uses the gym, purposely setting the alarm off, leading him to be ejected from the gym. However, the workers also recognise him and let him know that they know what he’s doing.
Twitter’s reaction to the video
After Twitter user @LackingSaint shared the video on March 8th, it’s become a talking point for users online. The tweet currently has over 16,000 likes at the time of writing this article.
Some were confused by the premise of the video: “We’ve been owned by…. Steven Crowder crossdressing at planet fitness and generally being accepted by those around him?”
“As long as the transgender person is not grunting loudly while lifting or talking loudly on a cell phone on the elliptical, who could possibly care?” asked one user.
Steven Crowder however responded to the reignited interest in the video, emphasising that it’s an old video, tweeting: “Outrage over a 5yr old video. Cutting edge. Do the Ice Bucket Challenge next!”
