TikTok users have realised a change in the voice of the text-to-speech feature, and they are wondering why the app has made such an alteration.
The text-to-speech feature of TikTok is one of the most used in the app, a favourite of many users indeed.
Lately, people have realised that the voice of the feature has been altered and another female’s voice has replaced the previous speaker of text-to-speech.
Why did TikTok change the voice?
The reason why TikTok has changed the voice of text-to-speech is that the former voice actress of the feature sued the app, claiming that her voice has been used to repeat “foul and offensive language” and that she never agreed to be featured in the app.
Bev Standings is the name of the voice actress behind the viral tool of TikTok, who argued that if TikTok wants to use someone’s voice, they should pay for it.
“My voice is my product – it’s my business,” Bev Standing claimed, suing the app and ultimately getting her voice removed for the text-to-speech feature.
The text-to-speech tool with Standings’ voice, who is also the original voice of Siri, has almost a million views and numerous videos.
New female voice on TikTok’s text-to-speech feature
After Bev Standings sued the app in early May 2021, TikTok had to either pay the voice actress for her voice or find a new voice.
TikTok has decided to replace Standings’ voice with another female’s voice that we’ve heard before online.
TikTok users have been quick to notice the change of the text-to-speech voice and suggest that the new female voice belongs to the woman who also is the voice of the digital writing app “Grammarly.”
