‘Yeah Muslims Can Take Alcohol During This Period’- Chief Imam

The National Chief Imam of the Republic of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has said alcohol intake by Muslims is permissible during this CONVID-19 period.

The revered Muslim leader in Ghana said this said when he asked all Muslims in the country to obey the directive issued by the President of Ghana after he placed a ban on social and formal gatherings to curb the spread of coronavirus after Ghana recorded its 7th case on March 27, 2020.

Speaking through his spokesperson Sheikh Aremeyaw about alcohol which is said to minimize the effect of coronavirus, the Chief Imam said: “context of the Mosque ban is acceptable in Islam as even alcohol, which is “haram” in Islam may be taken under some circumstances.

He added: “Under the circumstance, the call by the Chief Imam for Muslims to adhere to the protocols falls under the feature of contextualization. The context within which we find ourselves dictate what we have to do.”

“There are several texts of the Holy Qur’an that suggest and give an indication of how modest and flexible the sharia is.”
