Young Dolph Age and family

Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 27, 1985. When he was two years old, his family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. He was cousins with rapper Juice Wrld and had two sisters and two brothers. Dolph’s parents were both crack addicts, and he was reared primarily by his grandmother.

Career

Young Dolph’s first mixtape, Paper Route Campaign, was released in 2008. In 2010, he formally founded Paper Route Empire, an independent record label that is not linked with a major musical label, and released Welcome 2 Dolph World the following year. Dolph began to develop his own rap flow with the release of the mixtapes High Class Street Music and High Class Street Music Episode 2 in 2011, moving away from the style of Memphis rappers Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG and toward a personal style described as “vociferous” with a “magnetic delivery and uniquely deep voice.” In August 2014, Memphis rapper Yo Gotti offered Dolph a record deal on his Collective Music Group label, which is linked with Epic Records, but Dolph declined, wanting to remain independent.

Young Dolph was featured on O.T. Genasis’ platinum-selling single “Cut It” in 2016. Later that year, he released King of Memphis on his own Paper Route Empire label, which charted at number 49 on the Billboard 200.

Other Memphis rappers, like as Yo Gotti and Gotti-affiliated Blac Youngsta, were offended by the album’s title, with Youngsta leading an armed group in an attempt to locate Young Dolph in Memphis and responding with a diss track called “SHAKE SUM (Young Dolph Diss).” The next year, Dolph released “Play Wit Yo’ Bitch,” a diss track directed at Yo Gotti, causing Gotti to respond with a song of his own. In February 2017, Dolph released a music video for “Play Wit Yo’ Bitch,” and the next day, Young’s vehicle was shot at while in town for a performance at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship. His car was reportedly fired over 100 times yet had bulletproof panels installed. Blac Youngsta and two other males were arrested after the shooting, however the charges were ultimately dropped due to a lack of evidence. The exposure generated by the shooting was utilized to promote Young Dolph’s second studio album, Bulletproof. Dolph was shot many times in September of that year, and in February of the following year, he released the extended play Niggas Get Shot Everyday, which alluded to the previous occurrence.

After meeting at family gatherings, Young Dolph signed his cousin-by-marriage and fellow Memphis rapper Key Glock to his Paper Route Empire label in 2017. Young Dolph and Key Glock’s track “Major” charted at number 47 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2018.

Dolph said in the same year that he had been offered a $22 million label deal, which he declined. Dolph indicated that he prefers to continue on his own independent label, “To tell you the truth, it was a fantastic deal. But it’s only that I’ve noticed something else “..

Dolph later disclosed that he had secured a record deal with Empire Distribution, and his album Role Model was released in September 2018 on the Paper Route EMPIRE label, which is a joint effort between Paper Route Empire and Empire Distribution.

Dolph and Key Glock teamed up again in July 2019, this time releasing their debut collaboration album, Dum and Dummer, which is a play on the Farrelly Brothers’ film Dumb and Dumber.

The album reached number eight on the Billboard 200, making it the first top ten album for each of the acts.

BandPlay created the album, which had a range of beat patterns throughout its tracks. Dolph’s larger “songwriting range,” with “depths of self-loathing and sorrow” that were balanced by the younger Key Glock’s “celebrations of himself,” was recognized by record reviewers.

Dolph released the single “Sunshine” during the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States to draw attention to and address the global crisis. Rich Slave, Dolph’s seventh album, was released on August 14, 2020. It was preceded by the singles “Blue Diamonds,” “RNB,” and “Death Row,” all of which featured Megan Thee Stallion. “It’s the truth of being Black in this nation,” Dolph said of the album’s title. Dolph’s highest-charting album, Rich Slave, peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200.

It’s the follow-up to 2019’s Dum and Dummer, and it combines solo songs with collaborations between the two singers. [18] Beavis & Butthead is referenced in the project’s cartoon artwork.

Dolph’s independent Paper Route Empire label distributed the album. “Dolph & Glock design themselves in the image of pop culture dunces even though at the same time they’re poised, opulent, and immaculate—a there’s casualness to their rapport and respective flows that never announces itself too much,” Nadine Smith wrote in a Pitchfork review.
